The California Association of Black Social Workers (CABSW) Symposium for 2020 is scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2020. The host chapter, The Association of Black Social Workers of Greater Los Angeles, is planning an in person event or if warranted, may become a virtual event. The title of the symposium is "Moving from Trauma Informed Care to Practices that Matter." The goal of the symposium is to examine types of trauma impacting the African American/Black community and possible ways of improving the outcomes. Some examples are: (1) Identifying evidence based practices and their effectiveness with healing the negative effects of trauma. (2) Intergenerational effects of trauma. (3) African centered perspectives based on cultural values and historical experiences. We are open to all areas of practice including and not limited to child abuse, sexual abuse, domestic violence, community violence, etc.
